Minsk department of the Belarusian Railways is situated at the intersection of main traffic flows coming from Russia into Baltic and Western European countries; therefore the most part of both passenger and cargo freight is fallen to its share.

Main activity areas are: cargo freight, passenger freight, baggage and cargo baggage freight by common railroad transport.

Largest enterprises, such as JSC «MAZ» – «Belavtomaz» Holding Managing Company, JSC «Minsk Tractor Works», CJSC «Atlant», JSC «Keramin», JSC «BELAZ» – «BELAZ-HOLDING» Holding Managing Company, JSC «AMKODOR» - Holding Managing Company, JSC «Building Materials Plant» and others, are situated in the service area of Minsk Branch of Belarusian Railway.

One third of all cargo freights of Belarusian Railway are carried out by Minsk Branch of Belarusian Railway. More than a half of cargo freights, including petroleum oil, ferrous metals, wood products, fertilizers, coal, construction materials, etc., are carried out in transit.
